This remarkably bright morning I was driving to work trying to avoid slick, icy patches when I noticed the mountains and how they were so different than two days ago. The whole mountain had been carefully sprinkled with snow just so that the barren dirty spots were now perfectly white and the trees had been lightly frosted over each one now being more distinguishable than before. The darkness of the pine trees being a marked shaped upon a mountain of white. This all set against the bluest of blue skies. A breathtaking phenomenon I think that may be due the altitude or maybe because of the crispness of the cold air. It’s really irrelevant why, but key that it is. I noticed how, high up above tree line, Pikes Peak seemed to be being erased by the snow blowing at the top. The wind whipping the white crystals up and around just enough to blur the usual distinct outline of the mountain against the sky. This is the Colorado that I longed for when I was so far away.
