What I've been doing...

Three weeks ago my boyfriend (seen to the right) decided that it was time for our deck to go. The reasons were many. From the very large and very dead racooon we discovered a month or so after moving in (warm weather and the dead don't make for a good odor) to the skunk that decided to set up house last September to the fact that we could very easily peer into our neighbor's backyards and vice versa. The deck was an eyesore and a hazard. It was time for it to go. At 5 p.m. March 4th he began tearing the deck apart.

After a week of clearing out the debris (the old owners of the house threw a significant amount of brick, concrete and beer cans under the deck during it's construction) this is what it looked like:

We were facing a lot of work and planning on being done sometime in mid-May so that we could have a nice June party on our new patio. Well, my boyfriend Dan (see above) is obsessed. He's been working night and day and having me help out some, having friends and family over to help, and basically being a slave driver. Even so, his hard work and obsessing have paid off. We still have to finish up with the edges along the border, some along the side of the house, and then planting the beds, but it's amazing what's been done in just two short weeks.
